18k Vintage Venetian Blackamoor Bust Pendant Conversion with Ruby and Diamond Accents
Blackamoor jewelry has long been associated with Venetian craftsmanship, where carved figures were incorporated into richly detailed gold jewelry and ornamental objects. These sculptural pieces remain highly collectible today for their artistry and distinctive presence within Italian figural design.
This striking vintage Blackamoor bust was originally created as a brooch and has since been thoughtfully converted into a pendant with a discreet hidden bail positioned behind the turban. The conversion allows the piece to be worn beautifully on a chain while preserving the sculptural integrity of the original design.
The figure features a finely carved ebony head framed by flowing draped gold garments rendered in solid 18k yellow gold. A pear-shaped ruby measuring approximately 5 by 2 millimeters sits at the center of the turban, adding a vibrant focal point.
Two round brilliant cut diamonds measuring approximately 2 millimeters each and two round rubies measuring approximately 1.5 millimeters were later added as accent stones and are not original to the piece. The gemstones complement the design while providing additional sparkle and color contrast against the ebony carving.
Marked 18K Italy, the pendant measures an impressive 64 by 36 millimeters and weighs a substantial 31 grams. The scale and dimensional sculpting give the piece remarkable presence when worn.
Condition is very good vintage with crisp carving and light wear consistent with age.
