14k Old Mine Cut Diamond Cluster Ring with Nugget Shoulders
A bold vintage diamond ring combining antique sparkle with sculptural gold design.
At the center of this striking ring are four antique diamonds arranged in an engraved white gold cluster. The largest stone is a 5.5 mm old mine cut diamond, paired with a 5 mm transitional round brilliant diamond and accented by two additional old mine cut diamonds measuring approximately 2.5 mm each.
Old mine cut diamonds were hand cut during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and are prized for their chunky facets, smaller tables, and soft symmetry. Their distinctive faceting produces lively flashes of light that feel very different from modern brilliant cuts. The transitional cut diamond reflects the period when diamond cutting evolved toward the modern round brilliant, while still retaining vintage character.
Together the stones create a dynamic mosaic of antique sparkle with an estimated total diamond weight of approximately 1.30 carats.
The diamonds are set within an engraved white gold cluster top reminiscent of early twentieth century jewelry design. The fine engraving and construction of the cluster suggest the possibility that the head itself may originate from an earlier piece. During the 1960s and 1970s jewelers frequently incorporated antique diamond clusters into newly made rings, preserving historic stones and settings within contemporary mountings.
The ring’s shoulders feature bold textured yellow gold nugget detailing, a sculptural style that became popular during the 1970s. This combination of antique diamonds and confident vintage gold work gives the ring a distinctive layered history.
At 12.01 grams, the ring has a substantial feel and strong presence on the hand. The elevated cluster and open gallery beneath the stones allow additional light to reach the diamonds while creating generous finger coverage that visually reads larger than its total carat weight.
Although the ring measures size 6.25 on a mandrel, the open gallery allows it to comfortably accommodate fingers up to approximately size 6.75 without resizing.
